Orchard Boys’ Football Team Report

On the 9th February Orchard boys played Holy Rood. The boys spent their lunchtime putting up the goals in the snow. The afternoon had come at last and we were ready to roll. After carrying the brand new goals over to the park they were ready for us to get scoring in. Holy Rood kicked off the match and was awarded an early penalty after a horrific handball, but luckily the pressure was too much and he was just wide of the goal, but we’re sure Cameron would have saved it had it been on target. The Orchard team kept on battling for the ball and made some good passes and attacks but were unluckily to score, but hit the crossbar twice! After a good counter attack by Orchard, Thomas was awarded a free kick in a dangerous area, and after being given the all clear by the medical team, he was able to continue. Thomas aimed low and hard and swerved the ball off the post and straight into the bottom corner. Orchard had finally taken the lead. The second half kicked off and Orchard started well, with many attacks, and again great passing by the team. Ben and Lenny had some tall attackers to deal with but this did not faze them, and they cleared the ball each time. Thomas made a fantastic run toward goal and crossed it, whilst Taylor ran in towards the back post and tapped the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.  Holy Rood were on the counter attack and a great run from their striker led them to hit the crossbar and the ball bounced off the line towards Lenny who cleared the ball towards Cailan. Cailan then crossed the ball towards Oliver who tried a spectacular overhead kick but unfortunately it went in the keepers hands. Orchard carried on dominating Holy Rood and with an amazing run by Taylor led their defender to trip him up and the referee awarded a penalty. Taylor stepped up and side footed it right in the bottom corner to make it 3-0 to Orchard. The final whistle blew and Orchard won the friendly against Holy Rood. A great performance by all with Man of the Match awarded to Taylor for constantly tracking back and working hard for the whole team.
